Sonya Green

After completing her master’s degree, Mrs. Green worked as a Varying Exceptionality Resource Teacher. In this role, she collaborated with students, teachers, and administrators to evaluate and improve elementary school programs for students with disabilities. She implemented reading and writing workshops to enhance student literacy, supported school reading programs, and employed proactive discipline and specialized instructional strategies to foster student engagement.
With her Special Education certification, Mrs. Green utilized her extensive education and experience to transform the schools she worked in, focusing on improving the education of children with special needs. Her passion has always been advocating for children whose voices are often overlooked. In the Fall of 2020, she founded Mt. Sinai Arts Preparatory Academy, aiming to provide a developmentally appropriate education for children on all academic levels and nurture the next generation.
Our Beginnings
In the nearly 30 years that Mrs. Green had been teaching in the public school system, she had encountered countless parents and students who have become disillusioned with the current state of education in our area. Those frustrations were fueled by a system that tends to demonstrate an indifference toward students’ mental and emotional well-being while concentrating on achievements based on a one-size-fits-all curriculum. After much prayerful consideration, Mrs. Green felt the Lord leading her to begin something new in the community – a school that offered a program that was flexible enough to comprehensively address each child’s individual needs in a way that other schools won’t.
With the support and encouragement of her family, as well as a close circle of friends and colleagues in the faith, she began offering tutoring services. Through tutoring, the Lord revealed opportunities to develop relationships with families whose children were struggling. Before long, things began to fall into place, allowing Mrs. Green to offer a full-day program for a few students of varying ages. Within a couple of short years, the Lord brought more families to Mt. Sinai as well as teachers. And we are continuing to grow!

We at Mt. Sinai Arts Preparatory Academy don’t solely focus on academics but we emphasize the importance of the social, mental, and spiritual development of your child. We wholeheartedly believe that each child learns differently based on many different factors, be it intellectual differences, emotional challenges, or even developmental differences. By understanding that we all learn differently, finding the best method for comprehension, and applying the right techniques to unlock your child’s learning potential, we believe that your child will truly become their best whole being.
